Why concrete work

Durable, Custom Concrete Solutions for Outdoors

Incorporating concrete elements into the home’s exterior and landscape design requires both technical expertise and an eye for aesthetic appeal. DECOMA Industries provides a range of solutions that make use of concrete’s durability and versatility to enhance outdoor spaces. Whether constructing driveways, patios, walkways, or decorative elements like retaining walls and garden borders, every project is approached with precision. The team considers factors such as the terrain, climate, and overall design of the home to create features that are not only functional but also complement the home’s architectural style. Each installation is tailored to meet the specific needs of the homeowner, ensuring that the finished product aligns with the vision for the property while providing long-lasting results.

Expertly Designed Concrete Enhancements for Homes

The use of high-quality materials and modern construction techniques guarantees that all concrete installations are built to withstand the test of time and resist environmental wear. With options like stamped or stained concrete, homeowners can achieve a variety of looks, from sleek modern finishes to more traditional designs. Beyond aesthetics, these installations are designed to be practical, adding value to the home while improving functionality. The final result is a combination of strength, beauty, and utility, creating an outdoor space that enhances both the property’s appearance and its usability.

How we run it

Scope to sign-off.

  1. 01

    Site walk & design

Walk the project, measure, talk through finish and color options, identify drainage and grade issues. Real scope, real number.

  2. 02

    Permit when required

Driveways, retaining walls over 4 ft, and foundations require a permit in every South Bay city. We pull it. Patios and walkways often don't need a permit but we'll confirm with your AHJ.

  3. 03

    Excavate, form, & rebar

Sub-base prep, form work, rebar placed where structural concrete requires it. Pre-pour walk with you to confirm layout before concrete arrives.

  4. 04

    Pour, finish, & seal

Concrete delivered to the right mix, placed and finished to the texture you chose. Cured properly (don't sealed too early — that's the #1 reason DIY concrete fails). Sealed once cure is complete.

FAQ

Common questions.

How long does a new driveway take?
Demo of existing driveway: 1 day. Form and rebar: 1-2 days. Pour day: 1 day. Cure before driving: 5-7 days (foot traffic: 24-48 hours). Total: typically 2 weeks of intermittent work, then a week of curing before you can park.
What's the difference between stamped, stained, and decorative concrete?
Stamped: pattern pressed into wet concrete (slate, cobblestone, ashlar). Stained: color applied to cured concrete (acid stain for variegated, dye for solid). Decorative is a catch-all that can mean integral color, exposed aggregate, or hand-troweled finish. We mock-up samples on your property before committing.
Do I need a permit for a residential concrete project?
Driveways, retaining walls over 4 ft, foundations, and any structural concrete: yes. Patios, walkways, and minor flatwork: usually no. We check with your AHJ as part of the scope. Pulling a permit on something that needs one matters — un-permitted concrete can become an issue at home sale.
My driveway has cracks — replace or repair?
Hairline cracks: cosmetic, sealable. Settled or heaved cracks over 1/4": usually means sub-base failure (water under the slab, root damage). For structural problems, repair rarely lasts more than a few years — full replacement is usually the better economic call. We'll dig a test hole to see what's under the slab before recommending.
How long does concrete last in the South Bay?
Properly poured, properly cured, properly sealed: 30-50 years on driveways and patios. Coastal exposure (within a mile of ocean) brings spalling from salt air — we recommend silane/siloxane sealers for those properties to extend life.
Can you do concrete on hillside Palos Verdes lots?
Yes — and these are jobs we do regularly. Hillside concrete needs engineered retaining walls, proper drainage, and over-built reinforcement. We've poured driveways, patios, and retaining walls on Rancho Palos Verdes and Palos Verdes Estates hillside lots for decades.
